Beyond Emancipation (B:E) supports transition aged youth with experience in the foster care or probation systems in their transformation to live healthy, connected, and productive lives. Since 2010, B:E has worked to develop, integrate, and now disseminate an approach to services based on coaching principles and techniques. JOB DESCRIPTION

The b2b Coordinator/College Education Coordinator is a member of the Education Division. The goal of the Education Division is to assist current and former foster and probation youth, including those who are disconnected from services and support, to persist and succeed in secondary and post-secondary education, leading to secure and sustain satisfying, livable wage employment. The b2b Coordinator is responsible for coordination of the b2b program, a partnership with Peralta Community College campuses, and case management for all students involved in the program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • • Provide direct case management services to an active caseload of approximately 50 current and former foster and probation youth who are participants in the b2b program.
  • • Assist students in developing and implementing plans and strategies to support their retention in community college.
  • • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with students to support them to achieve their goals and to anticipate and problem-solve challenges.
  • • Facilitate educational workshops at Merritt and Berkeley City Colleges.
  • • Advocate for and refer students to appropriate services and programs (housing, mental health, health, employment, tutoring, mentoring, etc).
  • • Maintain progress notes and other records to document student status, progress and outcomes.
  • • Track and report relevant data and work with the Education Division Manager to assess outcomes and inform program development.
  • • Coordinate b2b program implementation with Peralta Community College District partners
  • • Participate in cohort classes on Peralta Community College District campus to support staff in creating a dynamic learning environment and to support students’ positive participation.
  • • Manage b2b program recruitment each semester, including outreach, application and interview process
  • • Actively build a dynamic learning community among program participants and with Peralta Community College District partners by planning, programming, and coordinating b2b cohort events
  • • Manage the relationship with staff at Peralta Community College District College and other collaborative partners
  • • Participate in organization- and division-wide meetings, trainings, and other efforts to improve the quality of agency services.
  • • 24-48 hour data entry turnaround time required
  • Integration of coaching methodology in approach with clients
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in education related field required and 3-5 years of relevant work experience in the education field. Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field preferred
  • Experience providing direct services in an educational setting
  • Experience working with at-risk adolescents and/or diverse young adult populations
  • Commitment to strength-based, client-centered services
  • Willingness to learn and commitment to improving the lives of former foster care youth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking a plus
  • Good judgment, discretion, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well in a pressured, fast-paced environment and in consultation with supervisor to set priorities in the presence of conflicting needs
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency on PC computer systems and Microsoft Office and ability to perform word processing, data entry and other tasks at a computer work station
  • Successfully pass background check and fingerprint clearance
